Yaaba – restored version
Idrissa Ouedraogo – Burkina Faso
The fable is one of intolerance and social hypocrisy. In a small, nameless village, a young boy and girl, Bila and Nopoko, befriend the village outcast-an old woman, thought to be a witch, who is ritually blamed for any disaster that befalls the community. They call her ”Yaaba,” meaning ”Grandmother,” a term of affection the elderly woman had never heard.
